Top 3 ways to grow your followers on social media

Hi Kerbears,

What is social media? It’s modern marketing, sales and PR. Plus it’s fast and free.

most people think by waving a magic wand, followers will automatically: appear, follow, like, and buy products. Click To Tweet

The number one question I’m asked by my clients is, “how do I get more followers?”

This is funny because most people think by waving a magic wand, followers will automatically: appear, follow, like, and buy products. Unfortunately, it isn’t that easy. To increase the amount of people who follow you on social media, you must put in the work. Accomplishing this will not happen overnight– it takes time, effort, sweat, and maybe tears for some. You must know your target audience well in order to attract them. So, let’s dive right in to learning about the top 3 ways to grow your followers on social media.

Know Your Target Audience!

This is a crucial part of being able to speak a common language. Who will buy your product and/or service? By knowing this, you can better align your communication and your audience. To do this, you must research through surveys. Surveys poll your audience, helping you to learn what type of product or service they want to receive. You are also able to identify what struggles exist within their business and personal lives. Those are known as their ‘pain points’. When we know what their pain points are, we are better able to provide the right resource and service to help them solve their challenges or problems.

Three great resources to conduct surveys are:

Type Form

Google Form

Each tool allows you to create a brief survey that you can send to your audience via email or various social media platforms. Facebook has a great feature built into their pages already so if you have a Facebook business page set up a quick poll to share with your audience. If you’re using a platform like Instagram, you can direct your audience to a link that will take them to the survey.

Know what you are offering:

Once you identify your target audience, figure out what service or product they NEED! (You don’t want to be that company that creates products for people and manipulates them into buying them even though they don’t need it!). By polling your audience, you will gather important information to help you create the right product or service for them. Once you have the clarity about what they want, determine the perfect way to share your product or service with them. In short, figure out where your people/tribe are hanging out in person and online. Then, go and interact with them. Share what you offer and why they will need it in their life.

Create great content and your audience will follow you:

This part is huge! If you are offering a product that your audience needs but your marketing is messy and disorganised, potential customers will be discouraged and not want to interact or buy from you online. We are visual creatures – drawn to things that are attractive to our sights first and foremost. Here’s a great example, when you going into a store or even if you’re browsing online. When you come across a product or a storefront that is neatly organised and packaged with a great visual story. Don’t you find that you’re more inclined to click on the page or the product to see more information about it? Me too. Take advantage of this knowledge and do some self-audit. Revisit all the content you have created or you had created for your marketing campaigns. Sit with them and look at them like you’re the customer. See them from their vantage point. Ask yourself this, would I buy this product or service? Is this appealing enough for me? Look at your marketing beside your product or service and find all the areas you can enhance, then do the work to make it more enticing so your audience/customer will want to click on the ‘Buy More or Read More’ button. Don’t forget to ask yourself what would make you want to click on the ‘buy more or read more’ button. You don’t want to give your audience any reasons to be discouraged by your content and marketing efforts. You want them to want to learn more about you and the product or service you are offering. This is why it is so important that you have great visuals in place from the beginning. You want to create a beautiful visual story for your customers and potential customers.

I’ve heard a lot of people recommending surveys! Would you send people a survey via an email or just have it on your blog page?

Great question Chloe! If you are polling your email list looking for ways to better serve them, then I’d say to send them a direct survey. If you are trying to capture website visitor and turn them into subscribers, you can definitely add a survey to your website. If you do add a survey to your website make sure it’s not long and complicated. Also, make sure you offer a free perk to those who opt-in to complete the survey for you. You can provide a percent discount or provide a free downloadable for them to retrieve after they’ve completed the survey. I hope that helps. 🙂

You’re right on time because believe it or not, it’s still early in the game. Many people are unaware of the power it holds.
